Which Are The Proven Wrinkle-Stopping Substances?

By In Skincare products

Our skin undergoes a lot of stress, from toxins in the environment to sun damage to the stress of life itself. There are ways to contain the scourge of wrinkles. Here are five proven wrinkle-stopping substances.

5 Proven Wrinkle-Stopping Substances

#1 Aloe Vera Gel

The gel from the aloe plant has over 200 healing phytonutrients. What’s a phytonutrient? They are natural compounds occurring in plants that have been scientifically proven to provide benefits. Ingesting the aloe gel is good for skin from the inside out, so add it to fruit juice or a smoothie. Four ounces is the recommended maximum amount to receive the full benefits. When buying the juice, however, makes sure it doesn’t contain any added sugars or other chemical preservatives. The malic acid in the plan helps wrinkles, too, so you can apply the fresh gel onto your skin. Cut an aloe vera leaf from the plant and extract the gel, apply, then leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

#2 Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)

Derived from a variety of natural ingredients, including citric acid from oranges and lemons, glycolic acid from sugarcane, lactic acid from milk, malic acid from apples, pyruvic acid from papayas, and tartaric acid from grapes, they are a natural way to exfoliate dead skin layers. Basically a skin smoother, they also supposedly stimulate the production of skin-supporting collagen and elastin. This doesn’t happen overnight, however. It could take six months to see a visible different in fine lines.

#3 Retinoids

You may be familiar with retinoids from over the counter retinol and the prescription Retin-A, both used to get rid of acne. But now retinol has also come to the rescue with its anti-aging properties. Retinoids, like AHAs, exfoliate skin. Retinol and Retin-A, both retinoid, are derived from compounds of the Vitamin A family. Retin-A is in prescription form and reduces fine lines and skin texture. Retinol-infused, over-the-counter formulations may take longer to get results. However, they are less irritating to the skin than the prescription-only formulas.

#4 Vitamin C

The nutrients in Vitamin C help form collagen and elastin, which are essential to keeping the skin looking young. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant to protect skin from the harsh effects of the environment. Researchers have found that vitamin C is not only is a building block, but it also boosts the body into producing more collagen and elastin. Popping a vitamin C won’t help your skin, however. It has to be applied directly on the face. Experts say look for a serum that contains at least 10 percent Vitamin C for it to be effective.

#5 Tea and Grapeseed Extracts

Green, black and oolong tea contain compounds that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. You’ll find green tea extracts most likely listed on wrinkle cream ingredients. Grapeseed has the same antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but also promotes wound healing, which experts say helps repair wrinkles.
